Study in Australia

Study in AustraliaThe majority of Australia’s population lives along the temperate south-east coastline. The northern part of the country has a more tropical climate. It is a land of diverse and important ecosystems with 16 World Heritage Sites, the Great Barrier Reef being perhaps the most famous, and has a unique flora and fauna. Animal species such as the kangaroo and koala are found nowhere else.

Enjoying a climate that encourages outdoor activities sport plays a major part in Australian life. Cricket, hockey, rugby and swimming are all very popular and Australia has world-class teams in all these disciplines. There are also strong traditions in music, ballet and theatre all of which are helped and encouraged by good public funding.

English is the national language and is still the sole language of 80 per cent of Australians. Recent years, however, have seen large-scale immigration mainly from Australia’s Asian neighbours and this has had a strong influence on the national culture, particularly on cuisine and Chinese, Thai, Korean and Middle-Eastern food is very popular.

With a federally regulated higher education system Australia offers a guaranteed standard of courses with degrees that are recognised internationally. Further, the Federal and State Governments have recently introduced a quality assurance strategy for institutions offering services to overseas students. Benefiting from lower tuition fees and cost of living than both the US and UK, Australia is a very affordable international study option. This affordability is enhanced by an immigration system allowing students the ability to work up to 20 hours a week during term time and full time during vacations.

Australia is rapidly becoming a world leader in technological innovation, and ranks in the top ten of the largest spenders for Research and Development. Computer Science is the second most popular course, after business, among Indian students studying in Australia.

India has become Australia’s biggest growth market for overseas students, which is understandable when one considers the high standard of living and education students are able to enjoy there.
